The number of therapy sessions required varies depending on your individual condition, goals, and progress. During your initial evaluation, your therapist will develop a personalized treatment plan and provide an estimate of the number of sessions needed to achieve your goals.
We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for easy movement. Depending on the area of your body being treated, your therapist may need access to that specific area, so shorts, sweatpants, or short-sleeved shirts are often ideal.
In many cases, a referral from your doctor is required to begin therapy. However, this can vary depending on your insurance plan and the type of therapy you need. We recommend checking with your insurance provider or contacting our office to determine if a referral is necessary.
In most cases, insurance will cover all or a portion of the costs for physical therapy. We strongly recommend that you contact your insurance company before your first visit to confirm your outpatient physical therapy benefits. Additionally, our Montrose location has two billing specialists available to assist you with any billing questions you may have.
Each treatment session, including your initial visit, typically lasts about 45 minutes.
- Physical Therapist (PT): A Physical Therapist is a movement specialist who focuses on the entire body. Their primary goal is to help you achieve proper posture, movement patterns, and improved balance, whether you’re walking or performing your daily activities. They address a wide range of conditions to enhance your overall mobility and function.
- Occupational Therapist (OT): An Occupational Therapist specializes in the upper extremities, including the arms, wrists, and hands. They work closely with physicians to improve fine motor skills, reduce pain in the hands or arms, and help you regain the ability to perform daily activities that involve your upper body.
- Athletic Trainer (ATC): An Athletic Trainer is a sports specialist who works with athletes and individuals of all ages to enhance movement patterns, strength, and form. Their focus is on helping you return to sports or recreational activities without pain and minimizing the risk of injury.
At In Motion Therapy, we are an Orthopedic Specialty clinic, which means we specialize in treating any disorder or injury involving muscles, tendons, joints, bones, fascia, or nerves.
During your first visit, your Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist will conduct a thorough evaluation, including objective tests and measurements. These assessments will include checking your strength, range of motion, muscle tension, posture, and alignment. Additionally, your therapist will take the time to discuss:
- Your medical history
- The history of your current condition or complaint
- Areas of pain and any limitations caused by your pain
- Your personal goals for therapy
This comprehensive evaluation helps us create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs and goals.
For your initial appointment, please bring your Insurance Card, Driver’s License, and a copy of the prescription from your doctor. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and shoes that allow you to move easily. Your therapist will likely need to assess the specific area of concern, so please dress accordingly. For example, if you are being evaluated for your knee, shorts or loose-fitting sweatpants are ideal. If your shoulder is being assessed, a short-sleeved shirt or tank top is recommended.
